Four Move in Quad Cities Roster Changes

The St. Louis Cardinals added two players and removed two from their Class A Quad Cities club on Thursday.

On Thursday, the St. Louis Cardinals moved four players on/off the roster of their Class A Midwest League affiliate, the Quad Cities River Bandits.

• Right-handed pitcher Chris Corrigan promoted from Quad Cities to A-Advanced Palm Beach

• RHP Cale Johnson promoted to Quad Cities from Extended Spring Training

• First baseman Victor Sanchez transferred from Quad Cities to Extended Spring Training

• Shortstop/third baseman Romulo Ruiz promoted from Extended Spring Training to Quad Cities

The corresponding Palm Beach transaction to make room for Corrigan has not yet been reported.

Chris Corrigan
Corrigan, 23, has been strong out of the Bandits' bullpen this season, fanning 13 and walking just two in 11 innings. He owned a 3.27 ERA and collected two saves. Corrigan also appeared in 13 games with Quad Cities last summer after his promotion from Batavia. He was the Cardinals' 30th round pick in the 2008 draft.

Johnson, 23, appeared in 13 games, including 10 starts, for Johnson City of the Appalachian League last summer. The right-hander fanned 36 and walked 25 in 62 1/3 innings while posting a 3.61 ERA Originally selected in the 41st round of the 2009 draft, Johnson had a one-day assignment to Palm Beach on April 17, but did not pitch and was returned to EST the next day.

Sanchez, 22, found Midwest League pitching too challenging. The right-handed hitter posted a line of .163/.288/.209 line in his 43 at-bats over 14 games. Sanchez had no home runs and three RBI. He was the Cardinals' 26th round selection last June from the University of San Diego and played with Batavia, hitting .291 with three home runs and 31 RBI in 57 games. Sanchez led the team and tied for 3rd in the New York-Penn League with 19 doubles.

Ruiz, 22, a native of Venezuela, had the most walks in the Appalachian League last season with 34 and led the Johnson City Cardinals in doubles (19). His 2010 line was .256/.359/.384 in 219 at-bats over 60 games Ruiz originally signed with the Cardinals organization in 2006.
