Cardinals Minor League Notebook: 05/31/11

The pitching struggled and offense didn't show up as Memphis' two-game winning streak ended. Springfield was outnumbered in homers in close loss. Palm Beach had day off. Chris Edmondson, Robert Stock, Justin Wright, and Cody Stanley led Quad Cities to doubleheader sweep. Silfredo Garcia had no offensive help in DSL loss.

Omaha beat Memphis 9-2

 

Individual Highlights:

Jim Rapoport 0-for-2 with two walks, one strikeout, one outfield assist, and assisted in one double play.

Andrew Brown 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, one walk, and one fielding error.

Mark Hamilton 0-for-2 with one RBI, one walk, one sac fly, and assisted in two double plays.

 

Rough Outing:

Aaron Luna 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

Donovan Solano 0-for-3 with one ground into double play and assisted in one double play.

Adam Ottavino started and pitched 5.1 innings.  He allowed six hits, six earned runs, one home run, two walks, hit two batters, one balk, and struck three out for the losing decision (1-4). (p-s:96-54)(g/f:6-6)

Jess Todd entered in the sixth and pitched 1.2 innings.  He allowed two hits, two earned runs, one walk, and struck two out. (p-s:26-14)(g/f:1-1)

Audry Perez 3-for-4 with one double, one home run, one RBI, and two runs.

Alan Ahmady 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

Jose Garcia 0-for-2 with two strikeouts and assisted in one double play.

David Kopp started and pitched 5.1 innings.  He allowed six hits, six earned runs, four home runs, one walk, and struck three out. One walk, one run, and one sacrifice at the plate.  (p-s:90-56)(g/f:3-8)

Jose Rada entered in the sixth and pitched 1.2 innings.  He allowed four hits, three earned runs, two home runs, one walk, and struck one out for the blown save (3) and losing decision (1-4). (p-s:38-23)(g/f:2-1)

 

Notes:

Schneider was bumped from the Springfield rotation due to his last performance and the promotion of Shelby Miller from Palm Beach according to Springfield News-Leader's Kary Booher.

 

Springfield pitching coach Bryan Eversgerd has been working with Maikel Cleto on his delivery and manager Pop Warner was close to using Ahmady in Sunday's game as a reliever due to short bullpen according to Booher.

Robert Stock 2-for-3 with one double, one home run, five RBIs (three w/two-outs), one run, one sac fly, and threw out one runner.

Ronny Gil 0-for-4 with one RBI.

Justin Wright entered in the fifth and pitched 3.2 innings.  He allowed no hits or runs, and struck seven out for the winning decision (4-0). (g/f:2-0)(ir-s:1-0)

Anthony Ferrara started and pitched 4.2 innings.  He allowed six hits, three earned runs, one home run, two walks, threw one wild pitch, one pickoff error, struck three out, and picked one runner off. (g/f:6-1)

Kevin Siegrist started and pitched six innings.  He allowed three hits, two unearned runs, threw one wild pitch, and committed one pickoff error for the winning decision (8-1). (g/f:9-9)

Boone Whiting entered in the seventh and pitched one inning.  He allowed no hits or runs, and struck one out for the save (4). (g/f:1-0)
