"Tilson is an excellent athlete and a well-rounded individual," stated Cardinals' Senior Vice President/General Manager John Mozeliak. "We are pleased to have him signed and we look forward to seeing his Cardinals career get under way."
Tilson, 18, batted .409 with 26 steals during his senior season at New Trier, IL High School, earning Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year selection. The Chicago area native excelled during the 2010 Area Code Games in Los Angeles and received a commitment from the University of Illinois to play baseball.
The 6-foot-0, 175-pound outfielder was a center piece on New Trier's 4A Illinois State Championship team as a sophomore in 2009. He bats and throws left-handed.
The Cardinals reached agreement with each of their top-10 selections in this year's draft and 35 players overall.
"Having all of our top draftees signed is certainly a highlight to this year's draft," said Mozeliak. "We feel that we have added a strong compliment of players to our organization. Jeff Luhnow and the entire scouting staff did another tremendous job this year."
