Cardinals Minor League Notebook: 08/21/11

The Cardinals system went 4-4 on Saturday as Eric Duncan homered twice in Springfield's extra-innings loss.

Albuquerque 6, Memphis 5

 

The Redbirds battled back to score four in the top of the ninth to take the lead only for Jess Todd to allow a walkoff home run in the bottom of the inning. Nick Stavinoha had a two-run home run.

Corpus Christi 10, Springfield 9 (11 innings)

 

The Double-A Cards lost their sixth in a row as Jorge Rondon allowed the walkoff single in the bottom of the 11th. Eric Duncan homered twice and plated three. Chris Swauger also went deep.

Palm Beach 9 at Jupiter 3

 

Kyle Conley smacked a pair of RBI doubles and Starlin Rodriguez homered to lead the Florida State League Cards to victory. Seth Maness starred in his first FSL game, throwing 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. In the process, he picked up his first professional win.

 

The Cards are 2 ½ games out of first with 15 remaining.

Beloit 7 at Quad Cities 5

 

Anthony Ferrara allowed a season-high six runs in five innings as the Bandits dropped the home series opener. Joey Bergman had a two-run double.

Batavia 5, Mahoning Valley 4

 

Ryan Sherriff allowed just one run in five innings, but newcomer Ethan Cole took a blown save, but also received the win with the Muckdogs came back in the bottom of the sixth. Danny Miranda picked up his ninth save of the season. Romulo Ruiz doubled and plated two.

Johnson City 6, Danville 4

 

The Cards stormed back to score four in the bottom of the eighth. Hector Garcia doubled and homered and Gary Apelian drove in three. Roberto Canache picked up the win in relief of Eduardo Hiraldo.

GCL Astros 5, Cardinals 4

 

The Cards squandered a 3-0 lead in the fifth as Bryan Martinez, pitching in relief, took the loss. Starter Stalyn Lopez allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings. Leandro Mateo singled, tripled, walked, scored twice and drove in two.

DSL: Cardinals 6, Brewers 1

 

The 2011 Dominican Summer League Cardinals ended their season with a victory, helped by six Brewers errors. Jhohan Acevedo had two hits and collected two RBI. Starter Silfredo Garcia allowed just one hit in four innings. Luis Perdomo finished with three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.
