Cardinals Minor League Notebook: 09/06/11

Mark Hamilton, Matt Carpenter each collect two hits as Memphis goes down in season finale. Jim Rapoport drives in only run as Springfield is thumped in final game of the season. Jonathan Rodriguez plates four runs, Oscar Taveras three as Quad Cities wins and prepares for the playoffs.

Nashville beat Memphis 10-2

 

Individual Highlights:

Adron Chambers 1-for-5 with one triple, one run, two strikeouts, and one throwing error.

Mark Hamilton 2-for-4 with one double and one run.

Matt Carpenter 2-for-3 at the plate.

Tony Cruz 1-for-1 at the plate.

Bryan Augenstein entered in the eighth and pitched one inning.  He allowed no hits or runs, and struck two out. (p-s:13-10)

 

Rough Outing:

Nick Punto 0-for-4 with one strikeout and one fielding error.

Nick Stavinoha 0-for-4 with one strikeout.

Freddie Bynum 0-for-4 at the plate.

Pete Kozma 0-for-4 with one strikeout.

Brian Broderick started and pitched seven innings.  He allowed seven hits, five runs (four earned), two home runs, one walk, and struck one out for the losing decision (7-7).  0-for-2 at the plate.  (p-s:92-56)(g/f:11-8)

David Kopp entered in the ninth and pitched to eight batters.  He allowed five hits, five runs (three earned), and one walk. (p-s:27-18)(g/f:1-0)

Rich Rundles entered in the ninth and pitched to two batters.  He allowed no hits or runs, and struck one out. (p-s:6-4)(g/f:0-1)(ir-s:3-1)

 

Notes:

Former Memphis Redbird and current Rockies minor league pitcher Clayton Mortensen will finish the 2011 season off on the disabled list with a fractured finger.

 

The reasoning behind Nick Stavinoha not receiving a call-up is due to available time and the Cardinals are already overstocked in the outfield according to the Cardinals official site.  Matt Carpenter, Pete Kozma, Andrew Brown and Mark Hamilton also did not get the thumbs up to join the team.

Zack Cox 2-for-4 and assisted in one double play.

Jermaine Curtis 2-for-3 with one walk.

Jim Rapoport 1-for-4 with one two-out RBI.

Jordan Swagerty entered in the ninth and pitched one inning.  He allowed no hits or runs, and struck one out. (p-s:12-9)(g/f:1-1)

 

Rough Outing:

Matt Adams 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and grounded into one double play.

Deryk Hooker started and pitched five innings.  He allowed six hits, five runs (three earned), one walk, threw two wild pitches, and struck two out for the losing decision (2-6). (p-s:99-62)(g/f:5-3)

Kevin Thomas entered in the sixth and pitched two innings.  He allowed two hits, one earned run, one home run, hit one batter, threw one wild pitch, and struck two out. (p-s:28-16)(g/f:0-3)

Jorge Rondon entered in the eighth and pitched to seven batters.  He allowed one hit, five earned runs, one home run, and four walks. (p-s:35-14)(g/f:1-0)

Samuel Freeman entered in the eighth and pitched to three batters.  He allowed one hit, no runs, one walk, and threw one wild pitch. (p-s:15-8)(ir-s:3-3)

Angel DeJesus entered in the ninth and pitched one inning.  He allowed two hits, one earned run, threw one wild pitch, and struck two out. (g/f:0-1)

Former Quad Cities rehab member Brian Tallet has officially been released by the Blue Jays.
