Cardinals AFL Interview Series: Matt Adams

St. Louis Cardinals first base prospect Matt Adams speaks from the Arizona Fall League in this exclusive interview.

The reigning Texas League Player of the Year Matt Adams was assigned to the Arizona Fall League's Peoria Javelinas as the St. Louis Cardinals' priority player. That means the 23-year-old is assured of playing most days. I spoke with him last week after he was coming off consecutive multi-hit games. The left-handed hitter was the only Cardinals prospect named to the AFL Rising Stars Showcase. The interview was prior to Adams' injury that kept him out of the all-star game.

Javelinas pitching coach Ace Adams from the Cardinals system remarked on what he has seen in Adams' AFL campaign offensively and defensively to date.

"Matt has tremendous power," the coach said. "Every time he comes up there, it looks like he is going to hit a line drive. He has played well at first. He is a hitter. He is a flat out good hitter… in the big leagues… He has big leaguer written all over him."

In this exclusive audio interview, Adams talks about his work in the AFL on pitch recognition, especially against left-handed pitching, with Javelinas hitting coach Alonzo Powell, his plans to employ a personal trainer at Penn State University during the off-season, the prospect of playing left field and much more.
