Cardinals AFL Interview Series: Justin Wright

St. Louis Cardinals left-handed relief prospect Justin Wright speaks from the Arizona Fall League in this exclusive interview.

Like several of his St. Louis Cardinals organizational peers participating in the 2011 Arizona Fall League, Justin Wright began his year with Quad Cities. The 22-year-old left-hander pitched well enough to be named a Midwest League mid-season All-Star.

In late June, Wright returned to Florida when he was promoted to Palm Beach. After a short stint on the disabled list, the former Virginia Tech star finished 2011 strongly. Wright then headed west to join the Arizona Fall League's Peoria Javelinas representing the Cardinals organization.

Javelinas pitching coach Ace Adams has been working with Wright to change his mindset and to get ahead in count by rediscovering his curve.

"His challenge down here is to get a better breaking ball," Adams disclosed. "When he signed with us, he had an outstanding curveball and for some reason, he has lost it. I am not really worried about the walks because I like his fastball command."

In this exclusive audio interview, Wright talks about the honor of competing at Busch Stadium and the MWL All-Star Game in Davenport. He shares his adjustments being made in the AFL, a view of the quality of competition faced as well as his goal for 2012.
