Cardinals AFL Interview Series: Keith Butler

St. Louis Cardinals relief prospect Keith Butler speaks from the Arizona Fall League in this exclusive interview.

Keith Butler has been a traveling man in 2011. The right-hander spent a brief time with Quad Cities to open the season before moving up to the A-Advanced Florida State League. The 22-year-old was named The Cardinal Nation Palm Beach Reliever of the Year and followed it up with our system-wide honor as well.

Finishing up a very strong regular season that included 17 saves, second-most in the St. Louis Cardinals minor league system, Butler then headed west to join the Arizona Fall League's Peoria Javelinas representing the organization.

Javelinas pitching coach Ace Adams from the Cardinals system isn't concerned about some uncharacteristic walks issued by Butler in the AFL early on.

"I am not worried about that stat as he always throws strikes," Adams said… "I love his competitiveness. He has a good arm and a great breaking ball – a little slurve that he throws - and he gets after it with his fastball. He is 92-94 (MPH)."

In this exclusive audio interview, Butler talks about the challenge players face when they change levels during the season and the importance of family support to help move automobiles and belongings. He discusses the importance of confidence not arrogance on the mound as well as how he learned the hard way not to change his pitching style when moving up a level.
