Even after earning the Most Valuable Player Award in the 2008 New England Collegiate Baseball League, Adams was an after-thought in the 2009 First Year Player Draft. The Cardinals selected him as the 699th overall pick, in the 23rd round.
With the spring training camp injury sustained by Mark Hamilton, Adams, a non-roster invitee, was the beneficiary of extra playing time and remained in major league camp until March 25. With St. Louis this spring, the slugger went 10-for-36 (.278) with a double, triple, two home runs and eight RBI. Adams also fanned 10 times.
As his time in big-league camp was nearing its end and Adams was preparing to assume the first base job with Triple-A Memphis this season, I sat down with the 23-year-old to recap his baseball journey to date.
What's coming next? The final exclusive interviews ahead in this series include Moises Rodriguez and Chris Maloney.
