In response, the Cardinals purchased the contract of catcher Steven Hill from Triple-A Memphis. The 27-year-old will be in uniform #60 for Wednesday night's series finale against the San Diego Padres.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pounder made his one-game MLB debut with the Cardinals in 2010 and hit a home run in his second career Major League at-bat that August 15 vs. the Cubs. He was outrighted, removed from the 40-man roster that November and went unclaimed. Hill missed a majority of the 2011 season after suffering a knee injury followed by a broken foot.
The Houston, Texas native was the Cardinals 13th round selection (412th player overall) in the 2007 amateur draft from Stephen F. Austin State University.
Hill's addition fills the organization's 40-man roster and he will become the 31st player to appear on the Cardinals 25-man roster in 2012. Memphis is once again one player short.
