Xavier Scruggs: San Antonio and Coach Wellman

St. Louis Cardinals Double-A first baseman Xavier Scruggs is back with news from Springfield and the road.

It has been a pretty good week, I must say. I mean the (Springfield Cardinals) team has continued to play well and my Lakers just recently acquired Dwight Howard. He is the key piece for us to win this upcoming championship. Ha.

I must say the worst part of the week was losing the last game against San Antonio in 14 innings. Once you play that many innings, it's important to come out on top with the win. I'm pretty sure we finished the game at 12:30 a.m. and that's past my bed time, so you know your boy was exhausted.

One of the factors to us finishing so late was that we had a 45 minute delay because there was a dust storm surrounding the field. Delays really suck because you have to sit around and wait till someone tells you that you can play. It's hard to stay focused and to prepare yourself when you aren't sure if the game is going to start or continue.

I can say from personal experience that rain delays can put pounds on you. When you are bored in the clubhouse and you see food, it is almost impossible not to eat it. The food is just staring you in the face and you have nothing better to do.

During delays, most guys are either sitting around talking about the weather, looking at the weather forecast, or making bets on whether or not we will play. Most of the time during a delay, you can catch me tweeting, listening to music and/or reading a magazine. ESPN the Magazine is my first choice, but I will settle with GQ. You will catch a lot of guys drinking coffee, just to keep their energy level up. Some guys are the opposite and take that time to get a small nap in. I am not opposed to either one.

I can tell you one thing, I am extremely happy that we don't have to come back to San Antonio because that stadium is one of the worst at which to hit. The ball always gets knocked down by the wind there and makes it almost impossible to hit a home run. Notice how I said "almost impossible." Ha. Luckily, I was able to get one over the fence there Friday night.

Let's see, what else is new? Oh yeah, our hitting coach Phillip Wellman was ejected from our 14-inning game on Friday. That's nothing new though, with him already being best known for having the number one blowup on ESPN for his antics when he was a manager in the Braves organization. If you haven't seen it, please do yourself a favor and check out this YouTube video. It is guaranteed to give you the best laugh you've had in a while.

That's about it for this week. Thanks for reading and I'm sure to have some juicy material for you next week as well!
