One Memphis injury leads to four moves

An injury to Memphis Redbirds infielder Jose Garcia affects three other Cardinals minor leaguers, as well.

Garcia
Jose Garcia has been one of the hottest hitters for the Memphis Redbirds recently, with a six-game hitting streak. That will be on hold for at least a week as the infielder was placed on the disabled list Wednesday with a right hamstring strain.

That set off a series of three other transactions at Springfield and Palm Beach as the organization backfilled Garcia and those who replaced him.

The 24-year-old Garcia is 8-for-21 (.381) over those last six games and has an overall line of .270/.357/.378 in his first 13 outings since his August 5 promotion from Springfield. The native of Venezuela also appeared in 18 games for the Redbirds in 2011.

Albitz
Infielder Vance Albitz was transferred from Double-A Springfield to fill Garcia's spot on Memphis' active roster. The 24-year-old struggled with the bat in the Texas League, going 6-for-55 (.109) in 25 games for the S-Cards.

Albitz spent the first half of the 2012 season with A-Advanced Palm Beach, batting .266 (33-for-124) with 13 RBI, 15 runs and five doubles in 43 Florida State games.

The right-handed hitter was acquired from an independent league team last August before joining Batavia to finish the 2011 season.

Pritchard
Replacing Albitz at Springfield is well-traveled infielder Neal Pritchard, promoted from Palm Beach. It will be the 23-year-old's second Texas League stint this season and third formal level at which he has been assigned.

Pritchard began 2012 in extended spring training, then spent a week in Palm Beach in May before returning to EST. The right-handed hitter then was assigned to Springfield for another week that same month for injury coverage without appearing in a game before another trip back to EST.

Shortly after, Pritchard was moved to Quad Cities, where he remained until being returned to Palm Beach on July 17. In 60 games between those two clubs, he has logged a line of .270/.333/.271. Pritchard fanned 56 times in 130 at-bats. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent last June.

Reyes
Palm Beach filled its opening by activating Roberto Reyes from the disabled list. The outfielder from the Dominican Republic went onto the DL effective August 13 with a quad strain.

Since joining Palm Beach on August 2, the 23-year-old has just one single and three walks in 13 plate appearances for a line of .100/.308/.100. The left-handed hitter also appeared earlier this season with Batavia and Quad Cities. Overall, Reyes' 2012 line is .223/.312/.293.
