Surprise 2 at Phoenix 2 (11)

Surprise and Phoenix dueled to a 2-2 tie on Thursday in a contest that was called after 11 innings.

The Saguaros took an early 1-0 lead when a lead-off double and wild pitch sent Christian Vazquez, the number eight hitter, to third with none out. The Boston prospect raced home when the next batter grounded out 4-3. Designated hitter Mike O'Neill worked the first of his two walks but it came to naught when Surprise grounded into a double play.

The Desert Dogs answered with two in the bottom of the fourth off starter Joe Van Meter. Fellow Ranger Ben Rowan came in with a runner at second and recorded the third out after issuing a free pass.

Southpaw Kevin Siegrist had his second straight impressive outing. The Springfield Cardinal took the ball to start off the fifth. He wiped out a lead off single to left in the fifth by inducing a 6-4-3 double play ball, then recorded the first of his four strikeouts. A soft fly single to left began the sixth as well but Siegrist's defense again responded with a 4-6-3 double play to end the frame. The 23-year-old fanned the side in the seventh, his third and final inning of work. Siegrist threw 47 pitches, 29 of them strikes, while allowing two hits and no walks.

Second baseman Kolten Wong hit in the three hole and went 1-for-5 with a strikeout. His sole hit was a single to right in the first that came with two outs. O'Neill was hit by a pitch to start the sixth but was picked off and caught stealing 1-3-4 with Wong at the plate. Twice O'Neill came to the plate with a runner in scoring position and could not pull the trigger. Wong did likewise in the eighth after O'Neill and Ranger Hanser Alberto worked back-to-back two-out free passes. O'Neill finished 0-for-2 with two walks and a strikeout.

Surprise took advantage of a single, double and wild pitch in the ninth to knot the contest at two all, where the score remained through the 11 innings played.
