Cardinals 2012 AFL interviews: Boone Whiting

In our continuing series of interviews with St. Louis Cardinals prospects competing in the Arizona Fall League, we speak with pitcher Boone Whiting.

Like his Surprise Saguaros rotation mates Kevin Siegrist and Seth Blair, Boone Whiting missed considerable time this season due to injury. Partially making up for lost time is why the 23-year-old was pitching in the Arizona Fall League.

A pair of injuries set Whiting back until late July. After his rehab stint in the Gulf Coast League, the right-hander was asked to return to Quad Cities, where he had pitched successfully in 2011. By late August, Whiting had been named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week.

Continuing to succeed in Arizona by changing speeds and maintaining impressive control along with the league strikeout title, Whiting seems ready for a bigger 2013. I spoke with Whiting in Arizona about his pitching.

Coming soon: This interview is part of a series of interviews with the seven Cardinals prospects still competing in the 2012 Arizona Fall League.
