Venezuelan League

Stats are through the games of December 19th.

Caribes de Anzoategui –
The Caribes went 2-4 for the week.
- Ildemaro Vargas: Vargas surfaced on Saturday for the first time since November 24th when he was the designated hitter in his squad's 11-0 loss. He was hitless in three at bats, swinging out of the nine spot. Vargas' most recent sighting was on Wednesday when he came to the plate with the tying run at second and one out. Vargas was caught looking for the second out and remained in the game at second for the top of the ninth.
Season-to-date: 18 G, 24 AB, 4 R, 6 H, 1 2B, 1 3B. 3 RBI, 2 BB, 3 SO, .250/.308/.375/.683, .286 BABIP

Tigres de Aragua –
Aragua won two, lost four and had one postponement.
- Jorge Rondon: Rondon had mixed results on Friday, beginning well but ending poorly. He came into the sixth with his squad trailing 3-1, two runs already across and a runner on first. The right-hander got a fly out to center to finish the frame, thus minimizing the damage. Rondon pretty much put the game out of reach in the next inning by allowing three tallies on a lead-off single, two base-on-balls and two more singles, with the walks and latter two singles all coming with two outs. He was replaced by Eduardo Sanchez.
Season-to-date: 4.40 ERA/5.12 FIP, 18 G, 0 GS, 28.2 IP, 28 H, 17 R, 14 ER, 3 HR, 4 HB, 13 BB, 19 SO, 1.43 WHIP, .248 BAA, 272 BABIP, 3 IR/0 IRS
Eduardo Sanchez: Sanchez limited the hit to Rondon's stat line on the 14th when he stranded runners at the corners in the seventh with a grounder to first. He sandwiched a two-out single around two swinging K's in the eighth then induced a 5-4-3 double play that wiped out a base-on-balls and single that kicked off the ninth. Sanchez recorded the final out via another swinging strikeout. He did not give up a run during Tuesday's stint but the right-hander was greatly aided by his catcher. Both of his base runners in the seventh, who got aboard via a walk and a single, were caught stealing which resulted in him facing the minimum. Sanchez followed up a single to begin the eighth by fanning the next two batters then exited. His replacement notched the last out of the frame to strand Sanchez' base runner. His weekly stat line: 0.00 ERA/2.20 FIP, 2 G, 0 GS, 4 IP, 4 H, 0 R/ER, 0 HB, 2 BB, 5 SO, 1.50 WHIP, .308 BAA, .500 BABIP, 2 IR/0 IRS

Cardenales de Lara –
Lara went 4-1 for the period.
- Richard Castillo: Castillo kept his squad in the game on Friday when he coaxed a force at second that left the sacks full to finish the fifth, thus bailing out both Lara's starter Raul Rivero and Springfield staff mate Deryk Hooker who relieved him. Castillo was given a very short leash, being pulled after walking the first batter faced in the sixth. He was given an equally short hook on Tuesday. The righty retired his first batter faced in the fifth for the inning's second out but was yanked after yielding consecutive singles. Both runners were stranded by Castillo's replacement.
Season-to-date: 4.05 ERA/4.95 FIP, 22 G, 0 GS, 20 IP, 24 H, 11 R, 9 ER, 1 HR, 1 HB, 11 BB, 10 SO, 1.75 WHIP, .289 BAA, .319 BABIP, 5 IR/0 IRS
- Deryk Hooker: Hooker had difficulty finding the plate in Friday's contest, issuing two free passes that forced in two inherited runners and broke a one-all tie in the fifth. He gave way to Castillo without recording an out. It was his only appearance this week.
Season-to-date: 0.00 ERA/4.06 FIP, 2 G, 0 GS, 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 2 BB, 2 SO, 1.29 WHIP, .125 BAA, .167 BABIP, 3 IR/2 IRS

Bravos de Margarita –
Margarita won two and lost five with one postponed.
- Silfredo Garcia: Garcia tossed a 1-2-3 seventh on Thursday to keep his team's deficit to a single tally in a game the Bravos went on to lose 4-3. The lead-off batter reached on a fielding error but the righty bore down to fan the opposition's lead-off batter swinging. Garcia erased the base runner on a 4-6-3 double play. That appearance finished Garcia's Venezuelan League season as Margarita subsequently removed him from their active roster.
Season-to-date: 2.25 ERA/3.50 FIP, 20 G, 0 GS, 20 IP, 21 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 1 HR, 0 HB, 5 BB, 11 SO, 1.30 WHIP, .273 BAA, .308 BABIP
