Fresh off his return from the World Baseball Classic, Adrian Gonzalez went off for two opposite field home runs, both of the three run variety. That raises his spring training average to .259, below where he's expected. This is the type of impact bat the Dodgers were looking for when they acquired him last year. Hopefully, this is just a preview of his regular season performance.
Korean import Hyun-Jin Ryu has had ups and downs in his first taste of stateside ball this spring, leaving fans puzzled about what to expect from the $60 million man. Today, he was up and looked sharp with 5.2 innings of 1 run ball, striking out 6. He earned his first win as a Dodger, although it doesn't count quite yet, while lowering his ERA to 4.41. With two more starts in spring training, Ryu needs to follow up this outing with another pair of successful showings to prove to the team and fans that he's ready for big time.
-Mark Ellis also homered, going 3 for 3 to raise his average to . 371. Carl Crawford led off and DH'd, though he went 0 for 3. Still, it's encouraging seeing him out there. Andre Ethier had 3 hits, including 2 doubles.
-The minor leaguers took over late and had some success. Brian Cavazos-Galvez hit a 3 run home run. Chris Jacobs and Pedro Guerrero each singled.
-Tony Gwynn Jr. got some time in on the minor league side, reaching base a few times via the walk but was also thrown out attempting to steal.
