Cards extended spring report: Older hitters

An in-depth, exclusive review of a number of the more experienced position players in St. Louis Cardinals extended spring training camp with State College manager Oliver Marmol.

2012 Johnson City Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol has been given a new challenge for 2013. The former infielder has been assigned the managerial role for the State College Spikes of the New York-Penn League.

While Marmol does not yet know the identity of many of those on his first roster at the short-season Class-A level – a number of college players to join the St. Louis Cardinals organization in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, scheduled June 6-8 – he is very familiar with those remaining in the system from 2012.

To that end, Marmol has been managing the generally more experienced players in extended spring training camp, designated as the "Red" team in game action. (You can see the EST rosters here.)

In the exclusive audio interview that follows, Marmol discusses how EST camp has progressed and specifically indicates a number of standout position players. He also sets up the preparations for the 2013 State College Spikes season.
