6 Springfield Cards among Texas League's best

The Cardinals Double-A Springfield club will be well-represented in the Texas League All-Star Game.

The Double-A Springfield Cardinals, currently in a battle for the first half crown of the North Division of the Texas League, had six players selected to the mid-season Texas League All-Star Team. Five of the six will be eligible to participate in the annual North vs. South All-Star Game, scheduled to be played at Northwest Arkansas on June 25.

The five current S-Cards are relief pitchers Deryk Hooker and Kevin Thomas, along with third baseman Ruben Gotay and outfielders Mike O'Neill and Tommy Pham. Gotay and O'Neill will be starters for the North.

Reliever Keith Butler, who is now with St. Louis, is the sixth Springfield all-star, but will not participate in the game. Pham, currently on the disabled list with a shoulder injury, would seem doubtful for the contest as well.

Butler is a repeater from the 2012 mid-season All-Star Team, on which Springfield also had six representatives. The others were starters Oscar Taveras and Kolten Wong, along with reserves Audry Perez and Jermaine Curtis plus pitcher Trevor Rosenthal. O'Neill was among the Florida State League All-Stars in 2012.
