Named to the All-Star Futures Game for the second consecutive season, Wong has been a consistent producer in the number two spot of Memphis manager Pop Warner's lineup. As late-season injuries and promotions tightened the roster in recent days, Wong moved into the important number three spot.
The left-handed hitter has been producing. Through Saturday, Wong has hit safely in eight of his last nine games at a .343 clip (12-for-35), including four multi-hit efforts. The Hawaiian native is tied for sixth in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League in triples (eight), 10th in hits (122), tied for 11th in stolen bases (19), and tied for 14th in total bases (189).
Though not yet on the 40-man roster, that should not be an issue. Wong is clearly a prime candidate for a September Major League debut with St. Louis.
In the following exclusive interview, Wong speaks about his 2013 season to date and what he hopes is just ahead.
