Co-Players of the Day Cesar Valera scored twice and Luke Voit knocked in two as the Spikes defeated the Jammers 3-1 on the road. State College (48-26) leads the series two-games-to-none and will face the Jammers in round one of the play-offs. Jamestown clinched the wild-card slot despite their loss.
Valera's two-out home run got his team on the scoreboard in the sixth, tying the contest at one-all. It was only the shortstop's second long ball of 2013. After reaching on a fielder's choice in the eighth, Valera added his 13th stolen base of the season to put him in scoring position for Voit's second single of the game. The catcher drove in Valera and newcomer Vaughn Bryan (double) for the winning margin.
Voit was the only Spike with a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Bryan, who joined Kenny Peoples-Walls as reinforcements from the Johnson City club earlier in the day, went 1-for-4 out of the nine hole.
Voit's clutch two-out hit made a winner of Chase Brookshire, who picked up his first decision and win as a professional. The Belmont product yielded a run on two hits over three with two strikeouts. Kyle Webb held Jamestown to a hit in the final two frames for his second save.
Brookshire and Webb pitched in relief of starter Andrew Pierce, who silenced the Jammers on a hit and base-on-balls over four frames. Pierce coaxed seven ground outs while fanning one.
Wednesday's game: at Jamestown (42-32), 6:05 pm ET, Willy Paulino (2-2, 2.77)
