The Spikes' bats busted out for 16 hits and 12 tallies in a 12-4 trouncing of Jamestown at home. The series is tied at one win apiece with the decisive game three set for Sunday at 7:05 pm ET in State College.
State College pushed across runs in all but the first and fourth frames with a four-run sixth breaking open a tight 5-3 contest. All nine players either scored or drove in a tally with some doing both. Designated hitter Michael Schulze had the most hits, going 4-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI but Player of the Day Carson Kelly produced the most results. Kelly doubled with a solo shot in two at bats, touched home twice and knocked in three out of the five hole.
Shortstop Cesar Valera went 3-for-4 with a double and walk while crossing twice, batting second. Second baseman Mason Katz and left fielder Luis Perez both singled twice in five at bats as the final Spikes with more than one hit. Katz drove in two while Perez scored one and knocked in another. Catcher Luke Voit had an unusual perfect day at the plate, going 1-for-1 with four base-on-balls, a run scored and an RBI.
Chase Brookshire was credited with his first post-season victory. The southpaw held the Jammers to two runs, one earned, on five hits, a hit batsman and two wild pitches over 3 1/3. Brookshire struck out four.
Jimmy Reed tossed the first three frames, yielding two tallies on five hits and two free passes while fanning five. Victor De Leon gave up a walk and single in the seventh that plated one of two runners inherited from Brookshire before notching the final two outs in the seventh. De Leon exited with one out in the eighth after sandwiching two more bases-on-balls around a single to jam the sacks full for Jacob Booden. Booden quashed the threat with two swinging K's, two of his four strikeouts over 1 2/3.
