A six-run sixth broke open a tight contest as the Saguaros coasted to a 9-2 victory over the Rafters (2-4).
Southpaw Kraig Sitton (L, 0-1) took over from Bo Schultz (ARI) to start the sixth with the score knotted at two all but the Rockies prospect was ineffective, yielding six tallies on six hits and a base-on-balls in just 2/3 of an inning. Tampa Bay's Matt Ramsey coaxed a line out to center for the final out of the frame, stranding one inherited runner.
Schultz tossed the first five frames, allowing single tallies in the third and fourth although both were unearned due to two errors by Salt River's third baseman, Andy Burns. Schultz gave up four hits while fanning four. St. Louis' hurlers did not make an appearance in the game.
Stephen Piscotty, the Cardinals' sole representative, joined Arizona's Nick Ahmed as the only Rafters with more than one hit. Piscotty went 2-for-4 batting in the clean-up slot.
He came to the plate in the first with the bases empty, a run already across and two outs and lined a single to center but was left there. The third inning saw him reach base via a 5-4 force out but the right fielder was more productive in his next at bat in the fifth. Piscotty's second line drive single up the middle advanced Jake Lamb (ARI) to third after the latter doubled home his squad's second run but the right fielder was forced at second for the team's final out of the inning. The California native ended the day by grounding out 4-3 for seventh's last out.
Wednesday's game: at Glendale (3-2-1), 7:35 pm CT, Grayson Garvin (TB) (1-0, 0.00)
