Cardinals Minor League Notebook: 05/13/14

Jaime Garcia's solid outing was not enough to boost Memphis to victory on Monday. Palm Beach went down to defeat as well to go 0-2 in a rain-shortened schedule.

Results from games played Monday, May 12th.

Round Rock 3 at Memphis 2

Jaime Garcia's second rehab start lasted longer than his first but Memphis (18-20) still fell on a tally in the ninth. The Redbirds lead the series two games to one.

Player of the Day Garcia, whose only start at Springfield was aborted after two frames when he was hit by a pitch, yielded single tallies in the first (home run) and fourth, the latter on a single, walk, throwing error and wild pitch. Garcia allowed three hits and two free passes over five, striking out five with four groundball and four fly-ball outs. He threw 74 pitches, 45 for strikes.

Jose Almarante fanned four in the sixth and seventh, giving up two hits and a base-on-balls. Heath Wyatt suffered his first loss when he gave up a run on three hits and two walks in two.

The Redbirds' offense had difficulty clicking despite 10 hits, going 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and stranding seven. Left fielder Stephen Piscotty and right fielder Shane Robinson both went 2-for-4 with Robinson touching home once. Jermaine Curtis singled and doubled in four at bats, driving in one. Ed Easley added his third long ball of 2014.

Peoria at Cedar Rapids - postponed

Rain kept Peoria (19-15) from playing its scheduled double-header at Cedar Rapids, resulting in a whole lot of ball to be played over the next two days. Both teams will try to get in two each on Tuesday and Wednesday.
