The Class A-Advanced Palm Beach Cardinals came off a tough 18-inning loss Friday night. In addition to having a position player (Bruce Caldwell) toss three innings, the Florida State League club had sent two pitchers to Springfield this week.
On Saturday, the drain increased as reliever Mitch Harris was promoted from Palm Beach to Springfield.
Two of the three Saturday openings were filled with pitchers, temporarily shifting the Florida State League Cardinals roster to 14 pitchers and just 11 position players. When Springfield activates Harris, they will need to make a corresponding roster move.

The story of Harris, 28, is well known. The former Naval officer was drafted in 2008, but 2013 was his first post-discharge season. Given his age, the right-hander needs to move up in competition relatively promptly.
Harris opened the 2014 on the disabled list, joining Palm Beach on April 22. He allowed six runs in 12 2/3 innings for a 4.26 ERA. In his eight games in the FSL, Harris struck out nine and walked six.
Returning to Palm Beach this season after an injury-plagued 2013, Garcia was expected to solidify the lineup, but has been inconsistent. The right-handed hitter is second on the club with six home runs and 22 RBI, respectively, but is batting just .230.
Ronnierd Garcia, 21, spent 10 days filling in with Palm Beach. In four plate appearances over two games, the right-handed hitter went 0-for-3 with a strikeout. He also drew a walk.

In his third season in the system in 2013, Perdomo, 21, made 12 appearances for Johnson City, including 10 starts, logging a 5.40 ERA.
Lucas, a 23-year-old right-hander, missed all of 2012 and returned for just six outings in 2013. Four of those were starts with Class-A Peoria during which he registered an ERA of 6.53. He opened 2014 in extended spring training.
Perez, 22, moved from Johnson City in late July last season. Earlier, he had one game as a fill-in with Peoria. Overall, the right-handed hitter's 2013 line was .257/.316/.368.
