Results from games played Monday, June 16th.
The Redbirds just could not come up with enough offense to close out their homestand with a victory. Stephen Piscotty was the only Memphis player with multiple hits, two singles. Tommy Pham finished the night with the team's only extra base hit and RBI, a pinch hit double.
Coming off the disabled list, Boone Whiting allowed a run on a hit and three walks in his four-inning outing. Lefty Pedro Feliciano (7.88 ERA) was charged with the loss, his second in the last three games.
Tuesday's game: Memphis (34-37) at Salt Lake (29-43), 8:05 CT, Zach Petrick (3-3, 4.77 ERA)
The Cardinals put up crooked numbers in the sixth, seventh, and eighth to secure the victory. Jacob Wilson led the offense with three hits and an RBI. Wilson is now hitting .308 at Double-A. Matt Williams singled twice and scored a run.
Jonathan Cornelius was charged with three runs, one earned, in 5 1/3 innings but did not factor in the decision. Seth Blair got the win but only after he was charged with a blown save. Mitch Harris and Lee Stoppelman combined for three shutout innings of relief.
Tuesday's game: Springfield (34-36) at Tulsa (34-27), 7:05 CT, Kurt Heyer (2-3, 5.01)
The Cardinals had to put up a crooked number in the bottom of the eighth to earn the victory. Reliever Iden Nazario earned the win after throwing 1 1/3 shutout innings. Dixon Llorens picked up his third save after striking out two in the bottom of the ninth. Starter Nick Petree allowed two runs on six hits in six innings of work.
Charlie Tilson continues to be the igniter at the top of the Palm Beach lineup. The centerfielder had three hits, scored two runs, and stole a base. Luke Voit slugged two doubles while Breyvic Valera singled and doubled to push his average to .333.
Tuesday's game: Palm Beach (35-33) vs. Jupiter (27-41), 6:35 ET, Thomas Lee (5-3, 2.84 ERA)
The first day of the three-day All-Star Break was Tuesday. Six Chiefs are all-stars – pitchers Arturo Reyes, Zach Loraine and Chris Perry and position players C.J. McElroy, Juan Herrera and Carson Kelly. Outfielder Ronald Castillo was named a starter for the Western Division, but is injured and cannot play.
Tuesday's game: Midwest League All-Star Game at West Michigan, 7:00 ET
For the second time in the first four games of the season, Rowan Wick had a multi-homer explosion. The Spikes' outfielder blasted two solo shots to pace the home team. Ronnierd Garcia added bases-empty home run of his own, his first of the season.
Dailyn Martinez was charged with two runs, one earned, in five innings of work. It was good enough for Martinez' first win of the season. Reliever Josh Lucas was credited with his second save in four games.
Tuesday's game: State College (3-1) vs. Batavia (1-2), 7:05 ET, Luis Perdomo (0-0)
The two teams combined for 22 hits on Monday. Luis Bandes had two, including his fourth home run of the season. Dennis Ortega, Carlos Rodriguez, and Oscar Cotes were all credited with multi-hit games, as well.
Reliever Angel Estevez picked up the win with two shutout innings. Andy De La Cruz earned his first save.
Tuesday's Game: DSL Cardinals (7-7) vs. DSL Nationals (9-5), 10:30 ET
