Cardinals Minor League Notebook: 06/29/14

Rowan Wick hit his 10th home run in 16 games for State College while rain washed away three games in the system on Saturday night.

Memphis vs. Round Rock

Postponed due to rain. Rescheduled as part of a Sunday doubleheader at AutoZone Park.

Sunday's games: Memphis (38-43) vs. Round Rock (41-40), 5:05 CT, Game 1 Boone Whiting (0-5, 4.30 ERA), Game 2 Zach Petrick (4-3, 4.48 ERA)

Springfield vs. San Antonio

Postponed due to rain. Rescheduled as a part of a doubleheader at Hammons Field on Monday, June 30.

Sunday's game: Springfield (36-39) vs. San Antonio (37-38), 6:10 CT, Kurt Heyer (3-4, 4.86 ERA)

Palm Beach 2 at Fort Myers 3

The Cardinals led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth but the Miracle plated two runs to pick up the win. Corey Baker was charged with a blown save while closer Dixon Llorens was saddled with the loss. Starter Nick Petree spun five shutout innings, allowing only two hits and striking out five.

Charlie Tilson singled twice out of his leadoff spot while Alex Mejia had two hits and drove in both runs. Cesar Valera singled twice and both Anthony Garcia and Luke Voit had triples.

Sunday's game: Palm Beach (43-36) at Fort Myers (47-30), 4:05 ET, Tyrell Jenkins (1-1, 4.50 ERA)

Peoria 5 vs. Quad Cities 4

Justin Ringo continues to lead the Chiefs' offense with three more hits including a two-run blast, his fourth of the season. C.J. McElroy collected three hits including two doubles. MeElroy finished the game with two RBI and two runs scored.

Blake McKnight picked up his fourth win after lasting six innings and allowing only two runs on four hits. Zach Loraine was credited with his seventh save though it wasn't pretty. Loraine was charged with a run on three hits in his only inning of work.

Sunday's games: Peoria (43-34) vs. Quad Cities (39-38), 1:00 CT, Game 1 Kevin Herget (3-3, 4.03 ERA), Game 2 (make up of June 22 rainout) Luis Perdomo (Midwest League debut)

State College 4 at Williamsport 8

The Crosscutters put up five in the bottom of the second and held on to defeat the visiting Spikes. For the visitors, our Player of the Day Rowan Wick his 10th home run, setting a new team season home run record in only 16 games. After finishing the night with two hits, "The Canadian Cannon" is hitting .392 and is slugging over 1.000. Ronnierd Garcia reached base three times with two walks and a hit.

Starter Austin Gomber was roughed up for five runs, one earned, in just a two-inning outing.

Sunday's game: State College (10-6) vs. Williamsport (7-8), 6:05 ET, Will Anderson (0-1, 1.80 ERA)

Johnson City vs. Kingsport

This game was suspended going into the top of the fourth due to the weather. At the time, Johnson City was leading 8-1. So far, Oscar Mercado has a single, double, two RBI and scored one. Casey Grayson has reached base all three times with a walk, single, double, RBI and run scored.

The teams will resume play before Sunday's regularly-scheduled contest.

Sunday's games: Johnson City (5-3) vs. Kingsport (5-4), 4:00 ET, Suspended game: TBA, Regular game: Dailyn Martinez (1-0, 5.40 ERA)

GCL Cardinals 2 at GCL Mets 7

Malik Collymore led the Cardinals offense with two extra base hits, a two-run shot and a triple. Edmundo Sosa reached base twice with a walk and a hit plus he scored a run. Joshua Lopez drew three walks.

Starter Frederis Parra was tagged with the loss after yielding five runs in four innings.

Sunday's game: No game scheduled.

DSL Cardinals 3 vs. DSL Giants 4

Jonathan Rivera doubled, tripled, and drove in a run to lead the offense. Dennis Ortega and Allen Cordoba both singled twice and drew a walk. Those three accounted for six of the Cardinals' seven hits.

David Oca is now 1-1 on the season after allowing four runs on five hits in 6 2/3 innings. Enrique Perez was credited with 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief.

Sunday's Game: No game scheduled.
