Breyvic Valera walked twice and stole a base, Jacob Wilson went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Sam Tuivailala pitched a 1-2-3 inning, but Peoria lost again Wednesday.

Results from the game played Wednesday, October 15th.

Mesa 5 at Peoria 2

A three-run seventh proved decisive as Peoria (2-5-1) fell to Mesa, 5-2.

While those tallies ended up providing the margin of victory, the Desert Dogs took the lead they never relinquished with two off starter Aaron Northcraft (ATL) (L, 1-1). Northcraft yielded both runs in the middle of his three-inning stint on two hits and three walks in all. The rest of Mesa’s runs came on a three-run bomb off the Braves’ Brandon Cunniff.

After the damage was done, Sam Tuivailala pitched a one-two-three eighth, inducing three identical 5-3 groundball outs. Tuivailala was the only St. Louis hurler among the six that pitched on Wednesday.

Jacob Wilson was one of two Javelinas with two of six team hits. Batting fifth, the Springfield infielder singled twice in four at bats. The right-handed hitter singled up the middle to open the second but was subsequently forced at second. A fly out to center finished the fourth before the 24-year-old grounded out to first for the second out in the sixth. Wilson drove one into left with two outs in the eighth, bringing in Peoria’s final tally, but he was caught stealing for the inning’s final out. The Javelinas’ first baseman was charged with a throwing error.

Leadoff man Breyvic Valera was the Cardinals’ third representative in the contest. The third baseman went 0-for-2 with two bases-on-balls, the latter one forcing across his team’s first run in the fifth. Valera swiped second after working a free pass to open Peoria’s segment of the game, putting a runner in scoring position with none out. Two strikeouts and a groundball out left the taxi squad player (eligible Wednesdays and Saturdays only) there.

Thursday’s game: at Mesa (2-5), 6:35 pm MST, Tyrell Jenkins (0-0, 0.00)
