Results from the game played Thursday, October 16th.

Peoria 2 at Mesa 6

Tyrell Jenkins suffered his first loss as Peoria (2-6-1) went down to defeat at the hands of Mesa, 6-2. It is the Javelinas’ fifth straight loss with a sixth contest ending in a tie.

Both of the tallies that crossed under Jenkins’ watch were unearned on a fielding error by Peoria’s third baseman which permitted a Solar Sox to reach with one out. A double and sac fly later the score was 2-0 in favor of the home team. Jenkins (L, 1-1) struck out five in 4 1/3, yielding four hits and a walk while throwing 61 pitches, 41 for strikes.

Mitch Harris relieved Jenkins with runners at the corners and one out. A steal of second put two in scoring position prior to Harris loading the bases on a free pass. Harris escaped on a swinging strikeout and fly out to center. The righty faced the minimum the next frame, recording one fly-ball and one ground-ball out before finishing with another strikeout.

St. Louis prospects comprised a third of the batting lineup and Jacob Wilson provided a third of the team’s nine hits. The second baseman went 3-for-4 with a double out of the six hole, raising his batting average to .385, good for fifth in the league. Wilson swiped his first bag of the fall campaign and grounded into a double play.

Clean-up hitter Cody Stanley drove in Peoria’s first run when he grounded out to second with a runner on third and one out in the eighth. Stanley singled once in four at bats. C.J. McElroy accounted for his squad’s other tally after he worked a one-out free pass the next inning. The centerfielder advanced on a soft grounder to first and scored on a doozy of a fielding error by Mesa’s second baseman on a subsequent play. McElroy was hitless in three at bats, batting ninth.
