More hits translated neither into more runs nor a win on Thursday as Peoria (3-10-2) was edged by Glendale 2-1 at home.
Javelinas bats mustered six hits, up from four on Wednesday and two on Tuesday, but generated a sole fourth-inning tally and that was unearned. Jacob Wilson went 0-fer for the second straight day, dropping his average below the .300 mark. The first baseman grounded out 6-3 and 5-3, popped out and K’d on a foul tip.
Cody Stanley collected his third RBI of the fall season on a ground-ball out that brought in Hunter Dozier (KC), who reached base twice via a free pass and single. Peoria’s catcher lined a single to right in the second and stole second but erased from the base path when he was struck by a batted ball while heading for third. Stanley fanned swinging and grounded out 4-3 in his last two at bats.
C.J. McElroy could not manage a hit for his sixth straight contest, going 0-for-3 in the eighth slot. The left fielder grounded out 6-3 and 4-3 then into a force at second.
Tyrell Jenkins gave up single scores in the second and third, taking his second tough loss in as many decisions. The righty surrendered a solo shot that kicked off the second inning and a single-double combination that scored another in the third. They are the first runs he has yielded in three starts. Jenkins went five innings, allowing three hits and two bases-on-balls with three strikeouts, six ground- and two fly-ball outs. 48 of his 76 pitches went for strikes.
Mitch Harris faced the minimum in the seventh, facing Glendale’s sixth, seventh and eighth batters. Harris’ seven-pitch inning included a line out to right, fly out to left and 4-3 ground out.
Friday’s game: vs. Mesa (8-6), 12:35 pm MST, Dylan Baker (CLE) (0-1, 4.50)
