Cardinals Rookie Oscar Taveras Killed

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras was reportedly killed in a car crash.

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras, considered by many to be a future superstar in baseball, tragically died today in a car accident in the Dominican Republic. He was 22.

Brian Mejia, Taveras' agent, told reporters that both Taveras and his girlfriend died in the accident. Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak expressed his condolences to the family according to USA Today, but has not spoken publicly at this time.

Taveras hit .239 in 80 games this season, knocking out a a game-tying pinch-hit solo home run in the seventh inning of Game 2 of the NLCS against the Giants.
