Cards Arizona Fall League Notebook: 11/06/14

Shortly after Chris Perry pitched a solid seventh, Wednesday’s game went south for Peoria.

Results from the game played Wednesday, November 5th.

Peoria 3 at Surprise 5

Four late tallies off Rays’ reliever Matt Lollis flipped a 3-1 lead into a 5-3 Peoria defeat.

Lollis (BS, 1) (L, 0-1) did not have his stuff going from the get go, surrendering a home run to lead off the eighth and three singles with one ground out mixed in. He was given the hook with two runs already across, runners at first and second and one out. Both runners subsequently scored.

St. Louis’ Chris Perry had pitched the seventh, retiring Surprise’s four, five and six batters in order on a pop out to Breyvic Valera in foul ground and two fly outs.

Valera was the Cardinals’ only starter, manning first and hitting second. He lined a single into left his first time up but was erased on a double play. Valera K’d swinging in the third, popped out to short and ground out to first his next three times up. With two on and one out in the ninth, Cody Stanley pinch hit for him. Stanley struck out swinging as the lead runner stole third.

Right-hander Cody Kendall (TEX) picked up his first win by keeping Peoria (10-13-2) off the board in the eighth despite giving up a hit and walk. The Reds’ Ben Klimesh made things interesting in the ninth, allowing consecutive one-out singles but held on for his second save.

Thursday’s game: vs. Scottsdale, 12:35 pm MST, Jaime Schultz (TB) (1-3, 6.27)
