Cardinals at Red Sox Rained Out Monday

The visiting St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox got in 4 1/2 innings of play Monday before rain ended it short of being an official game.

The rain opened up in Fort Myers on Monday afternoon. As a result, the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox had to endure a delay of almost an hour before their game was canceled due to wet field conditions. Before then, the two clubs had gotten in 4 ½ innings of baseball with St. Louis up, 2-0.

Though none of the stats are official, Cardinals starter Lance Lynn had a strong outing. The right-hander threw four innings, yielding just one hit and no walks. Lynn secured seven ground ball outs and three strikeouts against just two fly ball outs.

The Cardinals offense had six hits, all against Sox starter Rick Porcello. Doubles were struck by Jason Heyward, Ty Kelly (run scored) and Matt Carpenter (RBI). Jon Jay, Yadier Molina and Pete Kozma (run) singled. Xavier Scruggs drew the lone walk of the day and stole a base.

The Cardinals are off Tuesday, returning to action in Jupiter on Wednesday. Michael Wacha is scheduled to start against the Washington Nationals.
