Cardinals Prospect Interview: Cody Stanley

The St. Louis Cardinals’ 40-man roster catching prospect is getting more versatile to try to win an MLB job.

When had I last spoke with St. Louis Cardinals catcher Cody Stanley, it was late in the 2014 Arizona Fall League campaign. The left-handed batter had been working on his hitting and defense, including getting in some work at first base during the prospect showcase.

Shortly after, Stanley was named to the Cardinals’ 40-man roster and this spring, he was one of the later cuts from Major League spring training camp. After earning a promotion to Triple-A Memphis, the 26-year-old has been working on learning left field, a move that could help The Cardinal Nation’s 26th-ranked prospect become even more valuable as a potential MLB call up.

Little did we know when talking about that, in just 48 hours later, Stanley would be on his way to joining St. Louis for the very first time. The catcher was added to the 25-man roster at least as an interim move until Wainwright’s rotation spot comes up again.

In the following interview, Stanley discusses his progress since last fall.
