Memphis Redbirds Add Another Pitcher

Justin Wright rejoins Triple-A Memphis from Double-A Springfield, replacing Travis Tartamella.

The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds had been playing the last week with 12 pitchers, but made a roster balance shift on Tuesday with the return of left-handed reliever Justin Wright from Double-A Springfield.

In the corresponding Memphis transaction, third catcher Travis Tartamella was placed on the seven-day disabled list. At this point, Wright’s Springfield replacement has not yet been announced.

In 2015, Wright, 25, was back at Double-A for his fourth season, having made his Springfield debut in 2012. This season, his ERA was 2.92 in 12 1/3 innings over 12 Texas League games. Wright fanned 16 and walked just three.

Wright spent most of 2013 with Memphis, but returned to Double-A for about two-thirds of last season. In 2014, his Memphis ERA was 6.65 in 21 2/3 innings over 16 games.

Tartamella, 27, made his sixth appearance of 2015 for Memphis on Monday night, going 0-for-2 with a strikeout. Overall, the left-handed hitter is 2-for-15 on the season and has a slash line of .133/.176/.133.
