Grichuk Returns to StL, Scruggs Back to AAA

Outfielder Randal Grichuk was activated by St. Louis with Xavier Scruggs returned to Memphis.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to Saturday afternoon’s game that they have activated outfielder Randal Grichuk (lower back strain) from the 15-day disabled list and optioned first baseman/outfielder Xavier Scruggs to Memphis (AAA).

Grichuk, who was on the Cardinals Opening Day roster, had been on the disabled list since April 17. He appeared in three games for the Cardinals Extended Spring Training team in Jupiter, Fla. this past week, going 6-for-10 (.600), including a home run Friday.

The right-handed hitting Grichuk was batting .200 (2-for-10) with a homer and two RBI in six games played for the Cardinals this season before being placed on the disabled list.

Scruggs, who spent two days in St. Louis after Jon Jay was placed on the 15-day disabled list, flied out to left field in his only plate appearance with the Cardinals. The addition of Scruggs moves the Memphis roster to capacity of 25 players.
