Cardinals Prospect Interview: Luke Voit

The Cardinals’ first base prospect discusses his dream of playing for his hometown organization.

Born one day before Valentine’s Day in 1991, Wildwood, Missouri native Luke Voit was a born and bred St. Louis Cardinal fan. The organization made the relationship official when selecting the former Missouri State University star with their 22nd round pick in the 2013 Draft.

With the Bears, Voit had played with pitcher Nick Petree, taken in the ninth round that same year. Even better, perhaps, childhood friend and long-time teammate, pitcher Kyle Grana, signed with the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent that June, too.

Back for a second season with Palm Beach in 2015, the 23-year-old first baseman and former catcher leads his second-place A-Advanced club in RBI (20), as well as all three slash stats - batting average, on-base percentage and slugging (.304/.395/.400).

In the following interview, Voit discusses his standout 2014, during which his .442 slugging percentage was fourth in the Florida State League and 10th in the Cardinals system as well as the above topics and more.
