With Palm Beach Cardinals right-hander Alex Reyes, left-hander Rob Kaminsky form the St. Louis Cardinals’ top prospect pitching duo. Both are rated on a number of national top 100 lists and hail from the same state, New Jersey.
In 2014, no pitcher in the Cardinals system had a better season than did Kaminsky, according to The Cardinal Nation. We named the 2013 first-round draft pick our organizational Pitcher of the Year after Kaminsky accrued an ERA of 1.88 in 100 innings at Class-A Peoria.
In the following interview, Kaminsky builds off his 2014 with a look into his off-season regimen, which propelled him into a 2015 starting berth with the A-Advanced Palm Beach Cardinals.
Through eight starts in the Florida State League, he has a 3.14 ERA, but as has been the case across the system this season, run support has been inconsistent at best. Kaminsky has increased his groundball rate to a career best while also increasing his strikeout rate and holding his free passes flat. One negative is more hits allowed compared to last season, though he has yet to see one of his pitches knocked over the fence.
