Since the promotion of Miguel Socolovich to St. Louis this Tuesday, the Memphis Redbirds had been playing with 24 on their active roster. On Friday, another Triple-A pitcher was called up to the bigs in Tyler Lyons, St. Louis’ Saturday starter.
Late Friday, St. Louis made moves to re-fill both open spots on Memphis’ roster and backfill one replacement at Double-A Springfield as well. Details follow.
Lee Replaces Lyons
Thomas Lee has been promoted to Memphis from Springfield. The 25-year-old right-handed starter will be making his Triple-A debut.
Lee’s 2015 has been a tale of two seasons in one. Since posting a 9.00 ERA in his first five starts, Lee has a 1.95 ERA in his last six starts and is 5-3 with a 4.59 ERA overall. He won the Texas League Pitcher of the Week honors twice this season - for the week ending May 10 and again on June 7.
Lee may assume Lyons’ scheduled Sunday start for the Redbirds.
Memphis activated Matt Williams from the seven-day disabled list, where the 25-year-old utilityman was placed on May 29. In his initial Triple-A action of 68 at-bats over 33 games, the right-handed hitter has a line of .235/.354/.309/.662.
Williams takes the open roster spot vacated by Socolovich.
Hald Back from DL Stay
Springfield activated Kyle Hald from the seven-day disabled list, where the left-handed starting pitcher was placed effective May 27th. The 26-year-old gave up nine runs in 3 1/3 innings over his most recent start. Overall, Hald has a 6.23 ERA in seven Double-A starts and a 5.73 mark in a pair of outings with Memphis.
Hald takes Lee’s Springfield roster spot.
