Cardinals System News: Monday, July 27

Monday’s news across the St. Louis Cardinals system – reassignments, leaves and more moves!

Secret Weapon Lee Returns to Springfield

With the arrival of Tim Cooney, returned to Memphis with the acquisition of Steve Cishek, the Triple-A Redbirds needed to shed a player. Right-hander Thomas Lee was reassigned to Double-A Springfield.

During this time up with Memphis, Lee was strong. In four starts totaling 27 innings, he allowed just three runs for a 1.00 ERA. The right-hander struck out 12 and walked three.

Lee takes the Springfield roster spot of Kyle Barraclough, traded to Miami for Cishek.

Yokley Back to the Air

As previously explained, Johnson City pitcher Ben Yokley is leaving the club to fulfill his active duty commitment with the United States Air Force. The 29th-rounder from this June’s draft has been placed on the Military Leave List.

Yokley finished his first partial professional season with a 5.40 ERA, having allowed eight runs on 16 hits in 13 1/3 innings. The right-hander struck out 15 and walked just four.

Farinaro to Appy League Again

To replace Yokley at Johnson City, the Cardinals reassigned right-hander Steven Farinaro. The 19 year-old got off to a rough start in the Gulf Coast League, allowing five runs in his first three innings, but since has yielded just two runs in his most recent seven innings for an overall ERA of 6.30. The main problem was 13 walks in 10 innings.

Farinaro also pitched for Johnson City in 2014, logging a 4.31 ERA in 48 innings.
