Littrell Named July FSL Player of the Month

Palm Beach left-hander Corey Littrell named the top player in the Florida State League last month.

On Monday, August 10, Minor League Baseball announced the Player of the Month award winners for each of the 16 leagues for the month of July. Each winner will receive an award from Minor League Baseball in recognition of the honor.

Palm Beach Cardinals left-hander Corey Littrell went 4-0 with a 0.91 ERA (29.2IP, 3ER) in five games (four starts) during July to claim Florida State League Player of the Month honors. Littrell, 23, struck out 27 in his 29.2 innings without walking a batter. Littrell was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the fifth round of the 2013 draft out of Kentucky before being traded to the Cardinals at the 2014 trade deadline.

With his spectacular month of July, Littrell is now 6-8 on the season with just over 100 innings pitched. He currently is third on the team in wins (6), strikeouts (76) and earned run average (3.22) and is tied for first on the team with a WHIP of 1.16.

Littrell continues to be a force on the Palm Beach Cardinals pitching staff as they make a push for the playoffs during the second half of the Florida State League season. As of August 12, Palm Beach is in first place by 3.5 games over the Bradenton Marauders and have been in first place all but two days since the second half has started.

Littrell and the rest of the Palm Beach Cardinals are currently on a six game road trip which started on Monday, August 10, with a three game series against the Charlotte Stone Crabs followed by another three game series against the Fort Myers Miracle. Palm Beach will return to Roger Dean Stadium on Sunday, August 16, to play a four game series with the Jupiter Hammerheads.
