On the ledger, the 2015 Dominican Summer League Cardinals campaign was improved. The rookie level club went 34-38, 12 wins better than the year before. Under manager Fray Peniche (right in photo above), the club finished 16 games out of first place, compared to 28 1/2 in 2014.
The broader mission of player development continued at its usual pace, but in a new location. 2015 marked the first year of the new Cardinals Complex at Baseball Oasis.
A number of young hitters and pitchers progressed during the summer, including several in-season promotions. Others will soon be in the US at the organization’s instructional league program and the rest, plus some new recruits, will be playing in the Dominican version of fall camp.
In the following interview, exclusive for The Cardinal Nation members, Cardinals director of international operations Moises Rodriguez recaps the 2015 DSL season, and looks at some of the standouts among position players.
In Part two, Rodriguez will dig into some of the top pitchers, sets the schedule for the fall and winter heading into 2016, and more.
