Cardinals Minor League Notebook: 9/9/15

Palm Beach was dominated in its first-round opener with Mason Katz plating the only run.

Results from game played Tuesday, September 8th.

Charlotte 14 at Palm Beach 1

The Beach Birds were trounced by the Stone Crabs 14-1 in the opener of the Florida State League South Division Championship Series. Charlotte hosts the final two games in the best-of-three set.

Charlotte (TB) put up a straight number in five of the first six frames, with all of the runs charged to Corey Littrell (L, 0-1). Littrell yielded a whopping 13 hits in 5 1/3, and would have been saddled with a sixth tally except that Cody Schumacher left Littrell’s last runner aboard.

Schumacher proceeded to give up four of the six runs the Stone Crabs scored in the eighth, the righty not retiring any of the four faced that frame. Three of the four crossed home under Nick Lomascolo’s watch, Lomascolo matching Schumacher’s two hits and a base-on-balls allowed. Harley Holt was tagged for three scores on four hits in the ninth.

Meanwhile, Charlotte’s hurlers held Palm Beach to just five hits, no Beach Bird with more than one. Their only tally occurred in the fourth when Collin Radack reached on a force and was doubled in by Mason Katz.

Wednesday’s game: at Charlotte (1-0), 6:00 pm ET, Luke Weaver
