St. Louis Cardinals press release
The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have recalled catcher Ed Easley from the Triple-A Memphis roster.
Easley, 29, will be joining the Major League club for the second time this season, after a stint with St. Louis May 27 – June 18 (Matt Adams DL). He made his Major League debut on May 29 vs. LA Dodgers in a pinch-hit at bat, reaching on an error. He pinch-hit a second time on June 8 at Colorado and picked up his first Major League RBI with a sac fly, staying in to catch the final four innings. Easley hit .251 at Memphis over 88 games, catching 52 games and playing at first in nine (7 starts). In his last eight starts at Memphis he hit .423 (11-26) with 8 RBI, including a pair of 3 RBI games.
Easley wears uniform #23.
Brian Walton’s take
Easley becomes the 34th active player with St. Louis and fourth catcher, following Yadier Molina, Tony Cruz and Cody Stanley. Given that, it seems unlikely that Easley will see meaningful action with St. Louis in the final weeks of the season.
