The St. Louis Cardinals activated Matt Belisle from the 60-day disabled list on Saturday morning. The right-handed reliever was available for the completion of Friday's suspended game in Cincinnati and for Saturday's regularly-scheduled contest following.
Belisle last pitched on June 25, after which he was sidelined with discomfort in his pitching elbow. His rehab took considerably longer than expected, with Belisle finally cleared to resume throwing in late August. With the minor league seasons almost over, he threw in three simulated games over the last 10 days to demonstrate readiness.
Suspended on Saturday morning, catcher Cody Stanley is removed from the 40-man roster during his 80 games out. That created a 40-man roster opening for Belisle. With expanded rosters in September, 25-man rosters no longer matter.
