Dean Kiekhefer allowed a run in two innings and Aledmys Diaz walked twice and scored a run Friday as Surprise went down in defeat.

Results from Arizona Fall League game played Friday, October 23rd.

Glendale 9 at Surprise 6

Four tallies over the last three frames sent to Saguaros (6-3) to a 9-6 defeat by the Desert Dogs.

Up 6-5 through six, Glendale generated a three-run seventh off Connor Sadzeck (TX) (BS,1) (L, 0-1) on three hits and a base-on-balls. It was the right-hander’s only inning of work.

Dean Kiekhefer was the Cardinals’ sole hurler to see action. Entering with his club down by two runs, the southpaw retired the Desert Dogs’ nine, one and two batters in order the eighth on two swinging strikeouts bracketing a soft 6-1 groundout. He notched two quick groundouts to start the ninth before running into trouble, allowing a single up the middle and RBI double. Kiekhefer finished with a pop out to second and threw 24 of his 33 pitches for strikes.

Aledmys Diaz was the only Cardinals’ starter, playing second and batting seventh. Diaz went 0-for-2 with two walks, opening the third with one of the free passes. Two outs later, the 25-year-old stole second, putting him in position to score easily on a subsequent triple for a 1-0 lead. Diaz grounded out 5-1 to begin the fourth then ended the sixth with a fly out to left. He completed his day with a one-out base-on-balls in the ninth but was eventually erased on a force at second.

Saturday’s game: at Glendale (6-1), 12:35 pm MST, Jeremy Gabryszwski (0-0, 3.00)
