Results from Arizona Fall League game played Monday, November 9th.
Three blown saves by the Saguaros’ bullpen resulted in a 4-4 stand-off at Peoria (8-11) that was called after 11 innings.
Surprise took a 2-0 lead into the home half of the ninth but the Javelinas scored two off righty Connor Sadzeck (TX), sending the game into extras. The visitors pushed across another tally the next frame but Robby Rowland could not hold this lead. Rowland (BS, 2) recorded two quick outs via a ground out to first and fly out before running into trouble with a single, stolen base, walk and RBI single.
Back to the plate went the Saguaros in the 11th, plating another run with the aid of Patrick Wisdom. Wisdom reached on a fielding error at third, pushing the action with his second steal of both the game and season, advancing to third on a ground out. Wisdom easily scored the go-ahead run on a line drive single up the middle. He singled in the fourth, his only hit in five at bats, driving in what looked like an insurance tally.
Given a third straight lead, the bullpen once again did not finish the job. Kansas City’s Andrew Edwards served up a solo bomb, knotting the game at four all. Sam Wolff (TX) tossed an outstanding five frames, holding the opposition to a hit and base-on-balls on 55 pitches, 37 strikes.
Surprise (13-8-1) managed just six hits, versus Peoria’s 12, with no Saguaro having more than one. Charlie Tilson was hitless in four at bats but reached twice after working two free passes. He fanned twice.
Tuesday’s game: vs. Mesa (5-17), 12:35 pm MST, Ian Clarkin (1-1, 6.06)
