Results from Arizona Fall League game played Thursday, November 12th.
Charlie Tilson scored twice in the Saguaros’ 3-1 victory over the Scorpions (16-8), a showdown between the two top clubs in the Arizona Fall League.
Dropped from first to ninth in the batting order, Tilson responded by reaching base three times in four plate appearances. The left fielder opened the third with a single, later scoring his squad’s first tally on a sac fly by Jurickson Profar. After grounding out, 6-3, to kick off the fifth, Tilson beat out a bunt down the third base line to begin the seventh. His subsequent score improved Surprise’s lead to 2-0. The Illinois native finished his day by working a free pass with two gone the next frame.
Patrick Wisdom garnered another of the team’s 10 hits, singling once in four at bats. He lined out to right with a runner on first before lining a single to center with one gone in the fourth. The third baseman reached on a fielding error by his counterpart on the Scottsdale squad in the sixth, putting two on with just one out. But Wisdom was erased on a force and the Saguaros (15-9-1) failed to capitalize on the opportunity. The eighth saw Wisdom fly out to right for the second out of the frame.
Brewers’ lefty Josh Hader picked up his first win in his first start for Surprise after coming out of the pen five times. Hader held the opposition to two hits and a walk through four, striking out three. Right-hander Justin Haley (BOS) allowed a run on five hits and a base-on-balls over four, dropping his record to 1-1.
Dean Kiekhefer, the sole St. Louis pitcher to take the mound, relieved Hader in the fifth. The southpaw retired six straight with two strikeouts, one called, and four groundball outs. Kiekhefer threw 15 of his 21 pitches for strikes.
Friday’s game: vs. Salt River (13-11), 12:35 pm MST, Luke Weaver (2-0, 1.88)
