Cardinals Minor League Notebook: 11/13/15

Luke Weaver had his worst outing of the Arizona Fall League, taking the loss on Friday for Surprise.

Results from Arizona Fall League game played Friday, November 13th.

Salt River 5 at Surprise 3

Early home runs off Luke Weaver sent Surprise (15-10-1) to a 5-3 loss to Salt River.

All four scores charged to Weaver (L, 2-1) in the first were generated by two long balls, all of the four hits yielded that frame coming with two gone. The righty settled down until a base-on-balls, errant pick-off throw and double resulted in another run in his fourth and final inning of work. Weaver was touched for five hits and that base-on-balls, throwing 54 pitches, 38 for strikes.

The only score the Saguaros could muster against Colorado southpaw Kyle Freeland (W, 3-1) in 5 2/3 was a solo bomb by Tyler Austin (NYY), one of the four hits and one walk given up by him.

Surprise mustered seven hits but no Saguaros managed more than one. After Austin’s knock in the second, the home team did not score again until Patrick Wisdom lined a single to center with one away in the final frame. A double by Aledmys Diaz, his sixth, put both runners in scoring position for Cam Gallagher (KC) whose two-out single brought both across. Both Wisdom and Diaz went 1-for-3 with a base-on-balls while shortstop Diaz committed his fourth miscue in the field.

Saturday’s game: at Salt River (14-11), 6:08 MST, Sam Wolff (2-1, 3.54)
