St. Louis Cardinals press release

The St. Louis Cardinals announced a second round of Sunday roster cuts following their game, optioning outfielder Anthony Garcia to Memphis (AAA) and re-assigning infielders Jonathan Rodriguez and Patrick Wisdom to minor league camp.

The Cardinals had announced six player moves earlier in the day with infielders Dean Anna and Aledmys Diaz having been optioned to Memphis (AAA), and catcher Carson Kelly and pitchers Austin Gomber, Jeremy Hefner and Deck McGuire being re-assigned to minor league camp.

Following today’s moves, the Cardinals spring roster currently has 21 pitchers (1 non-roster); 4 catchers (1 non-roster); 10 infielders (2 non-roster) and 6 outfielders (2 non-roster).

Brian Walton’s take

The Cardinals made their second cuts of the day on Sunday, moving three of the projected starting eight for Memphis down to minor league camp. Of the three, only Garcia is on the club’s 40-man roster. Of this group, the outfielder hit the ball the most consistently this spring and could make his St. Louis debut when the first corner outfield injury occurs.
