Another day, another roster change at Palm Beach. After a series of moves at four levels as a result of catcher Alberto Rosario going on the DL at Triple-A Memphis led to the Palm Beach Cardinals losing one catcher and adding another, on Monday the Florida State League club lost another infielder due to injury.
Andrew Brodbeck, who made the high-A club out of spring training by leaping from the Gulf Coast League last season, was placed on the seven-day disabled list on Monday. The 23-year-old appeared in just two games with Palm Beach, going a collective 3-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI.
Brodbeck’s replacement is another short-season player from 2015, Dylan Tice, up from extended spring training camp. The 23-year-old switch-hitter posted a line of .280/.341/.393/.735 as Brodbeck’s teammate on the rookie-level GCL Cardinals last summer.
In his Florida State League introduction Monday night, Tice had two singles in four at-bats and drove in a run.
Brodbeck becomes the fourth middle infielder on the Palm Beach DL, joining Mason Katz, Juan Herrera and Darren Seferina, all placed there to open the season.
